Whilst most responsible landlords will already have smoke and carbon monoxide alarms fitted, as of 1st October 2015 the new legislation is more specific, it is now mandatory for landlords to put a carbon monoxide alarm in any room where solid fuel is burnt.
They also must fit a smoke alarm on every floor of a rented property that is used wholly or partly as living accommodation.
The new legislation has on the whole been supported and landlords are urged to install the correct alarms to ensure that their rental properties are compliant with the new legislation.
